Spring in the City!

5 Things to do to Maximise the Spring Vibes

As spring is steadily taking over winter I feel inspired to do some of my favourite spring activities again.

I feel more motivated to be more and more outside to soak up the sunshine and witness nature’s awakening. Here are five of my favourite activities to do to maximise the spring vibes in my life.

  1. Embroidery and cross-stitching. Embroidery and cross-stitching are the ultimate springtime artistic activities for me. There is something so romantic about them that makes me think of spring. I am not very good with arts and crafts, but I use cross-stitching and embroidery kits that have templates for design so it is easier for me to do. You can find beautiful cross-stitching kits at Marshalls and Dollarama that are affordable and easy to make.

  2. Reading in a garden. Reading while being surrounded by the beauty of a garden, smelling the fresh air and being surrounded by the fragrance of spring flowers is a dream. I recommend the Joan of Arc Garden in Québec City. I am currently reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. It is a non-fiction book filled with nature essays that are a treat for any nature lover or anyone interested in learning about indigenous values and world views through nature literature. If you are looking for a new book to read, check out Y4Y’s community exchange book box at La Maison Girardin, which was made as part of our Community Liaisons Program.

3. Sketch drawing by the river. I like sketching by water and I am so excited that the weather is warmer so I can spend more time outside without being too cold. It is very good for my mental health to draw my feelings out and get some fresh air at the same time. I recommend going to the Linear Park of the River St. Charles if you’re in Québec City. It has some very nice views of the river. Dollarama has some affordable sketching books and pencils that you can get if you are a beginner. To maximise the spring vibes, listen to the Bridgerton: Official Playlist on Spotify. It is the perfect springtime playlist, in my opinion.

4. Go on a hike. As spring is coming, I feel more motivated to move and explore outside. I love going on spring hikes to supplement my workout routine. Exploring a trail and observing nature as it starts to bloom, when the animals are coming out from their slumber, is truly beautiful. The sun is shining to fuel me with energy and the chirp of the birds is a delightful soundtrack for the hiking journey. In Québec City, I recommend the Sentier de la Rivière Beauport. It is a delightful trail ideal or hikes and even runs or biking. At the end of the trail, a beautiful waterfall awaits you that is truly a reward after a hike.

5. Picnic with friends. One of my favourite springtime activities with my friends is a picnic. It can become a potluck where everyone brings their favourite picnic dish or build a charcuterie board together for a picnic. I like to look on Pinterest for picnic aesthetic and food inspiration, and if your friends are down to dress up, a picnic can turn into a cottage core aesthetic photoshoot. I recommend Pierre-Dugua-De-Mons Terrace for a picnic in Québec City.

I hope you like some of these activities, and I wish you a blessed spring season full of inspiration and love.
