5 Things to Do in Québec City during the Holiday Season

November 28, 2022 | Québec City, Capitale-Nationale, Québec

The holidays are approaching and we’re getting deeper into winter. Therefore, I collected five activities to do in Québec City to stock up on some holiday cheer and cozy winter vibes.

1- Visit the German Christmas Market:
I had the opportunity to go to the German Christmas Market in Québec City on the opening weekend and I was enchanted by how beautiful it was. The Christmas market rivals the ones in Europe with its cute little wooden stands and the gorgeous decorations. There are many delicious foods to choose from, including pulled pork sandwiches and churros. Also many vendors sell handmade artisan goods that can be great gifts for friends and family. Prices are very reasonable in my opinion, too. Moreover, there are many cultural programs like concerts and workshops that the market offers. It is an ideal place to take some cute photos with friends, too, as there are many beautiful decorations, rows of christmas trees, and sculptures that are definitely Instagram worthy. The Market runs from November 24th to December 23rd 2022, and is open morning to evening at many different locations downtown.

2- Join Y4Y Québec’s Seasonal Decor Making event at the Morrin Centre:
I invite you to spend a cozy evening making seasonal decor at a gorgeous Victorian-era library that makes you feel like you’re in the Beauty and The Beast library. The event is on December 17th 7-9pm. It will be an evening of creativity, and there will be many natural materials such as cinnamon sticks, ribbons, cranberries and grapevine wood to make cute ornaments, wreaths and garlands. To make the atmosphere extra cozy, there will be some homemade holiday-inspired cookies and seasonal teas to choose from. I’m really excited for this event and I look forward to seeing you there!

3- Try the Maelstrøm Saint-Roch holiday menu at the Miracle Pop-Up
It was a surprise at first when I went to Maelstrøm Saint-Roch a few weeks ago without knowing that they were doing a Christmas themed pop-up. It was as if I entered a café at Whoville (from the Grinch) during Christmas time. The place was head to toe decked out with Christmas decorations and their menu was fully holiday themed as well. The thing about Maelstrøm Saint-Roch is that it is a café during the day and a bar during the evening. The bar menu was full of Christmas inspired cocktails and the drinks came in holiday mugs as well. At the cash register, they sell the holiday mugs as well so you can buy one when you pay, which I thought was very cool. So far, I’ve only visited during the evening, but I look forward to having brunch there too. The pop-up is up from November 23rd to December 31st, 2022.

4- Go skating at Place d’Youville:
If you are checking out the Christmas Market at the Place d’Youville location, then I also recommend bringing some skates, because there is a huge skating rink at Place d’Youville as well. What’s better during winter than skating in the heart of downtown Québec City while admiring the beautiful Christmas decorations and having some mulled wine or hot chocolate after! I’m excited to hit the ice there this season and soak in some holiday cheer.

5- Go to the Christmas party at the Girardin House
The Girardin House is a national historic building in Beauport district of Québec City that hosts many cultural and artistic events throughout the year. This year, the Girardin House hosts a free Christmas party on December 10th, 1-4pm. The event includes Christmas crafts, a performance by a professional storyteller, and hot chocolate and drink bars. I am very excited to check out this event!
